The problem of maintaining an adequate teaching staff, which the Wanganui Education Board has found progressively difficult under war conditions, has been accentuated by the general mobilisation of the military forces. Complaints have been made recently of overcrowding on the Wellington suburban trains, the position having been aggravated during the day by the restriction on the bus service between Wellington and Petone. A transportation officer of the Railways Department stated that there might be overcrowding on isolated occasions, but the same circumstances had frequently arisen on buses and tramways, and people were prepared to stand.
