FLOATING CARS
A novel method of floating a car across an unfordable river has been evolved by United States Army engineers. They literally float the vehicle over the water. The car is backed on to a square of canvas, part of which rests on the surface of the water. The canvas is then pulled up and tied around the car, just like wrapping a oarcel. Then the water in the canyas is pumped out, and the machine, which weighs about one ton, displaces enough water to float. The engineers push the outfit across stream, unwrap it on the opposite bank, and carry on again.
