MISS ASHWORTH RETIRES

Miss Clarice Ashworth, who has retired from the position of principal of Columba College. Dunedin, will shortly leave for Australia, to take up a position as principal of the Presbyterian Ladies’ College 1 in Armidale, the. educational centre for the northern district of New South Wales. Miss Ashworth, who is an Australian, nevertheless has-a strong link with New Zealand, as her mother was a member of

the Marsden family, and had a close family association with Samuel Marsoen. . Educated at the Sydney Girls’ High School, and afterwards at Sydney University, during which time she nad experiencev of teaching in primary schools, Miss Ashworth later trained as a teacher at Sydney Trainirig "’.ollege. On completing her bachelors degree -in arts she did some interesting educational work in Fiji among the; Fijian girls, under the auspices of the Methodist Mission Society, and when she returned to Australia taught in the High Schools in New South Wales Miss Ashworth, . who has -been connected with church schools since her earliest teaching days, was principal of RaVenswobd College in Sydney, -and later principal of the Methodist Ladies’ College in Adelaide before coming io New Zealand eight years ago to take up her position at Columba College. | ; Miss Winifred McQuilkan will succeed Miss Ashworth as acting principal of Columba. : ' - ’
