AIR RAID SHELTER
TO THE EDITOR
Sir,—l suggest that no better temporary air raid shelter could be found than the cattle stalls at Tahuna Park. The stalls are situated right at the foot of the sandhills. Water and light are already laid on, and sanitary arrangements could soon be made. All that requires to be done would be to strengthen the roof with planking and then cover with sand to a depth of, say, three feet. The stalls have a warm northerly aspect and are quite dry. These stalls would provide a temporary and fairly safe shelter for 1000 people or more. They would be very easy of access for residents of Musselburgh, Tainui and part of Anderson’s Bay. It would be necessary of course to remove the military camp so that enemy fire would not be drawn to that area. If necessary, more shelters could be provided further along towards Lawyer’s Head.—l am, etc., Shelter.
