KING'S HIGH SCHOOL

The King's High School for boys is situated on extensive grounds fronting Bay View road, Dunedin. The buildings comprise the main block, assembly hall, fully equipped workshop, and bicycle shelters. The main building includes 9 classrooms, and art room, 2 science laboratories, library, rector's study, staff room, and office.

The school is built on the most modern lines, ample lighting and ventilation being provided, together with water-heating throughout. The full area of 14 acres is available for sport and athletic activities, and the provision of fives and tennis courts gives pupils the opportunity of indulging in every form of healthy activity. The rector is Mr D. S. Chisholm, M.A., a man of wide experience, with more than 30 years of service as a teacher, including 13 years as a rector. The following courses are provided:— (a) Professional, leading to the University and professional life generally—namely, law, medicine, church, army, dentistry, teaching, etc.; (b) general, leading to the University, engineering, teaching, business, etc.; (c) modern general, a special course suitable for boys not wishing to attempt the University entrance examination. Subjects: English, history, civics, geography, book-keeping, arithmetic (or mathematics), physics, chemistry, physiology, and first aid, and woodwork. The organisation and curriculum are so planned as to give every boy a general school training in the earlier years with a view to specialisation at a later and more suitable period. . The school prepares pupils for the following examinations and bursaries:— School certificate. University entrance, higher leaving certificate, University junior and national scholarships, accountancy, and various educational bursaries.
