NAZIS PAY TERRIBLE PRICE THE NATION BLED WHITE GENERATION OF MEN LOST (Rec. 11 p.m.) LONDON, Dec. 15. "The appearance of the Russian capital has been little changed in the last two months as the result of bombing, and the morale of the people has vastly .improved," says the Moscow correspondent of the Daily Telegraph. "The only Germans now within .40 miles of Moscow are casualties." The Red Star says General Govo-; rov revealed that the Germans on December 4 were 20 miles from -Moscow. Two German spearheads advanced on the flanks of the Mojaisk highway to Goluitaine, 20 miles south-west of Moscow, and Svenigorod. The Germans thus threatened to cut off the Russians defending the highway and then sliell Moscow. The Russians erected a great barrier of straw and other material eight feet high and one-third of a mile wide. , They set it ablaze and held the Germans until tank reinforcements came up and routed the*' Germans. • The Red Star adds: "The Soviet resistance has bled Germany white and cost Germany an entire generation of men. While Russian resources of men and equipment are growing the German plan to encircle Moscow was beyond the caoacity of Hitler's military machine, and in addition the German lines- of communication were too long." The Moscow radio says that the Russians crushed an enemy attempt to resist behind fortifications to which they fell back after the recapture of Tikhyin. The Russians, mercilessly pursuing the Germans, recaptured over 100 villages.
