PUBLIC BEQUESTS

SOUTH CANTERBURY RESIDENTS (P.A.) TIMARU, Dec. 15. The estate of Mr T. B. Garrick, former chairman of the Levels County Council, has been sworn at under £150,000. A fifth of the estate is devoted to paying the following public bequests: Plunket Society, Timaru, £IOOO, as a memorial of the work done for the society by his late sister, Mrs M. M. Newman; £IOOO to the British Empire Cancer Research Fund; and £SOOO to the South Canterbury Hospital Board for capital expenditure. The balance of the . fifth share is to go towards such charitable obects as are decided by the trustees. The estate of Mr T. D. Burnett, M.P. for Temuka, is sworn at under £53,000. To the Burnett Valley trustees he has bequeathed St. David's Pioneer Memorial Church property as a permanent memorial to his parents together with £SOO to be known as the St.. David's Pioneer Memorial Trust Fund, the income to maintain the church property and the Burnett private burial ground. To the trustees he has also bequeathed the Strathcona Domestic Training Centre at Pleasant Point and the School Farm. From the residue of the estate, the income not to exceed £2OO annually, is devoted to the Strathcona Domestic Training Centre, and the balance goes to St, Andrew's Presbyterian College, Christchurch. Mr Burnett also bequeathed two properties in Timaru to the borough for a pioneer hall.
