DEFENSIVE AREAS
SEVERAL ON AMERICAN COAST (Rec. 9 p.m.) WASHINGTON, Dec. 12. Eight defensive areas on the west and east ‘ coasts, in which' vessels except those operating under navy orders can enter only after obtaining specific authorisation, have been established by an executive order signed by President Roosevelt. Such areas will be mined and otherwise protected. The areas are Portland. Portsmouth, Boston, Narragansett Bay, San Diego, the Columbia River entrance, the Strait of San Juan, and Puget.
