INCENDIARY BOMBS
THEIR OPERATION AND CONTROL PRELIMINARY TESTS (P.A.) WELLINGTON, Dec. 13. The Minister of National Service, Mr R. .Semple, states that arrangements were made a considerable time ago to import standard British incendiary bombs for the purpose of demonstrating their operation and control. These had come to hand last week and preliminary tests had been made yesterday by the Dominion Fire Controller and the superintendent of the Auckland Fire Brigade with Group Captain Buckley, who. recently returned from England, where he had recently experienced bombing raids, and with Air Forces armament officers. The Minister added that it was planned to have similar tests in the four centres as soon as the necessary arrangements could be made. This would be done in a park or other suitable place so that as large a number of people as possible could witness the actual effect of an incendiary bomb and the method of its extinction. Only a limited supply of bombs was in hand and it was proposed also to make a film which would be available 1 for distribution to country districts.j In addition supplies of demonstration bombs, which consist of firework composition designed to represent the action of bombs, were being* made I available in all the larger towns. Fifteen hundred of these were avail? able. , '-.'3..
