FOOTBALL IN CAIRO
RUGBY AND ASSOCIATION NEW ZEALAND BEATS SOUTH AFRICA (N.Z.E.F. Official News Service.) ■/ CAIRO, Nov. 2. Rugby and Association football matches were played on Wednesday between South African unit teams and sides from the New Zealand base camps. In both codes the New Zealanders scored convincing wins. The Rugby match was won by 20 points to nil, and the Soccer by 6 goals to nil. Both games were played on grass at the Gezira' Sporting Club's grounds. Fast and cohesive back-line play largely contributed to the New Zealanders' Rugby victory. In a game full of incident, the winning side early established a marked superiority in all departments. Tries were scored by J. Campbell, N. Collins, W. Campbell, Pearce (2), and Rae, the lastmentioned converting his own try. Half-time score was 9—o. The, New Zealand camp group team was: Fleming, McAnaney, Stephens, J. Campbell, Collins, W. Campbell, Rae, P. A. Wilson, Gunn, Sealy, Milligan, Wilson, Leith, Pettifer, Evans. Several provincial representatives were included in the Soccer side which defeated the South African team- convincingly by six goals to nil. Five of these goals were scored by the Centre-forward. Beatty, of Auckland, and one by James (centre-half), who before the war represented Auckland. Half-time score was 4—o. The team was: Mcßae (Southern Infantry), Jardine (Artillery Training), Tolchard (Camp Headquarters), Halley (Artillery Training), James (Camp Headquarters), Cocks (Artillery Training), Innes (Camp Headquarters), McCallum (Camp Headquarters), Beatty (Artillery Training), Putt (A.S.C. Training), and Anderson (Artillery Training).
