SOCIAL SERVICE
PRESBYTERIAN ASSOCIATION The monthly meeting of the General Committee of the Presbyterian Social Service Association was presided over by Mr T. Sorrierville. The matron of Ross Home reported that at November 30 there were 50 old people in residence, of whom two men and six women were in the hospital wards. It was agreed that the Christmas party at Ross Home be held on December 19. The ; report of the Finance Committee was submitted by Mr A. M. Cameron, who stated that the committee was taking steps to Increase the amount of donations made to the funds of the association. The progress report from the sale of the stamp booklets was considered most satisfactory and there was evidence that the children of the Sunday schools had entered into the plan most enthusiastically. Last year over £l6O was raised by this effort, and it was anticipated that this year's total would be a similar amount. The 1942 calendars had proved very popular and 2550 had been disposed of in the Dunedin area. The report on the work of the childrehs' homes showed that the health of the children had been very good during the month. The homes would close on December 20, the children leaving for Middlemarch on that date. Arrangements were in hand for the placing of quite a number of boys and girls with friends in the country. The number of children in the homes at the present time was 81. The Rev. R. W. Murray reported that further consideration had been given to the chapel project and that It was meeting with a sympathetic response throughout the whole area.
