Dr Stanley Batchelor was a passenger for Wellington by the-through express yesterday. Mrs H. Miller, of 96 Queen street, has received word that her son, Henry, is a prisoner /of war in, Crete. The resignation of the Rev. J. H. Robertson, of St. Peter's Presbyterian Church, Woolston, because of ill-health, was accepted by the Christchurch Presbytery on Wednesday. Dr W. Newlands and Dr C. E. Hercus, dean of the medical faculty, left for Wellington by the through express yesterday to attend a meeting of the Medical Council of New Zealand. Miss Edna C. Scofield has been appointed to the position of part-time commercial teacher in the Otago Girls' High School. Miss Scofield at present occupies a similar position in the South Otago High School. She will take up her duties in the Girls' High School at the beginning of 1942. Professor J. Williams, one of the professors recently appointed to the Sydney University Law School, has been elected dean of the faculty of law at Sydney University for the two years beginning on January 1, 1942. The faculty elects its own dean. Deans of all faculties are elected for two years, and it is the practice to elect them in November. Passengers for the north by air yesterday were: Mr A. C. Donaldson. Mr and Mrs F. Jarvis. and Mr E. V. West for Christchurch, Miss U. Trolove, Mr J. Fletcher, Mr James Fletcher, and Mrs E. Gierner for Wellington. Mrs J. Richardson and Mrs L. J. Stevens for Auckland. Passengers who arrived by the afternoon plane were: Mr F. Fox from Auckland. Mrs J. Hughes from New Plymouth, Lieutenant W. D. Holmes, Mrs J. Brown, and Mr E. Titchener from Wellington, Leading Aircraftman C. G. Meffan, Mr Ignaz Friedman, and Mr L. J. Dirigerfield from Christchurch. ,t-
