NEW ADMINISTRATOR
ST. JOSEPH-S CATHEDRAL CELEBRATION OF JUBILEE The celebration of the silver jubilee of the ordination of Father C. E. Ardagh, the new administrator at St. Joseph's Cathedral, took- place at the cathedral on Wednesday. In the morning Solemn Mass was celebrated by Father Ardagh. Bishop Whyte presided. Bishop Brodie, of Christchurch, preached the occasional sermon. At a social function in St Joseph's Hall at night. Father Ardagh was. extended a welcome to Dunedin by representatives of the various churches in the cathedral parish. The chairman was Mr J. Geerin, and Messrs' H. A. Poppelwell (Cathedral), Don Doolan (Holy Name), C; Lynch (St. Mary's), and A. J. Douglas (St.. Francis Xavier) welcomed Father Ardagh dn, behalf of the churches. Bishop, Whyte. and Monsignor Delaney also spoke; Father Ardagh was born at Ngapara, and received his early education at Oamaru and Waimate. He entered Holy Cross College In 1908, and was ordained on November 22. 1916. at Timaru, by Bishop Brodie, who was officiating at his first ordination, after being appointed Bishop of : Christchurch. Father Ardagh's first appointment was at St. Joseph's Cathedral, and . then followed periods of service in.,turn at Port Chalmers, Invercargill. Winton, Oamaru, Cromwell, and Queenstown.: -He remained at Queenstown from 1927 until last year, when he went to: Christchurch on account of ill-healih. On the death of Monsignor Morkane recently, Father Ardagh was appointed,rJo the position.of administrator at Si, Joseph's Cathedral.
