MASONIC LODGE

ANNUAL COMMUNICATION INVESTITURE CEREMONIES According to ancient ceremonial, and with the added modern features of impressive and beautiful music, Mr C. L. Mac Diarmid. of Hamilton, was installed at the Town Hall last evening for his second term of office as Grand Master of Freemasonry in New Zealand. This was the culminating point of the fiftysecond annual communication of the Grand Lodge of New Zealand, which meets in the four main centres in rotation. Appointments of high officers, who are to support the Grand Master during the coming year, were also announced, and their investiture of those in attendance constituted another feature *of the proceedings. There was a very large gathering of officials of Grand Lodge, sitting masters, and other delegates from the 305 lodges under the New Zealand Masonic jurisdiction, and local members of the Craft. Senior Officers

After his installation, the Grand Master announced the appointment, under his prerogative powers, of the following senior officers;— Deputy Grand Master. Mr James McAllister (Stratford). The business session at the Town Kail yesterday morning was devoted mainly to consideration of matters in connection with the financial administration of the craft in New Zealand, notably the various charitable and philanthropic institutions it maintains. Continued progress was shown by the Kirkpatrick Masonic Institute for girls under the age of 16 who have lost their fathers. These girls enjoy all the advantages of a high-class boarding school Without any expense whatever to the mothers. A very satisfactory position was also reported in respect* to the Masonic Boys’ Home at Papakura. Regret was expressed by the Board of General Purposes of the death during the year of the generous donor and benefactor of the home. Mr F. S. Potter, who, in 1923, handed over to Grand Lodge six acres of land at Panmure, near Auckland, for the purpose of establishing homes for necessitous Freemasons and their wives, and later had two cottages erected on the land in order to give the scheme a start. Mr Potter was also the donor of the property at Papakura, which forms the nucleus of a scheme for the carrying on of Masonic orphan boy ’ homes, and endowed the trust with a. very substantial sum of money to provide for the maintenance and erection of such homes.

Wellington was fixed'as the place for the 1942 communication. This will be an occasion ofc special significance, as it will coincide with the celebration of the centennial of Freemasonry in New Zealand.
