CITY COUNCIL
fortnightly meeting Although the fortnightly meeting last night of the Dunedin City Council agreed fully with the decision of the Library Committee to open the upstairs section of the Public Library on Sundays, some members questioned whether it was necessary to employ an extra assistant each Sunday, at a cost of £4O a year in overtime wages. This section of the report was referred back to the committee for reconsideration. The reason for opening the upstairs section, it was explained, was that the recent re-arrangement of the library meant that certain magazines were no longer downstairs, and therefore were not accessible on Sundays under the former system. Alterations to Municipal Chambers On the recommendation of the Finance Committee, the tender of the Glue Construction Company (£1130) was accepted for alterations at the Municipal Chambers for the purpose of providing accommodation for the cashier on the ground floor. "' The meeting was attended by the Mayor (Mr A. H. Allen), Crs D. C. Cameron, R. Walls, J. McCrae, W. B. Taverner, J. Wilson, J. W. Munro. M.P., M. C. Henderson, L. M. Wright. D. C. Jolly, and L. J. T. Ireland.
