WAITATI GAME FARM
REPORT TO ACCLIMATISATION SOCIETY Reports received at a meeting last night of the Otago Acclimatisation Society indicated that the work at the society's game farm at Waitati is going on satisfactorily. Mallard duck eggs were hatching, it was stated, 140 eggs being under hens and about 100 under ducks. Only 22 of 152 eggs placed in an incubator had hatched, but it was believed that a thunder storm had been responsible for spoiling many of the batch. ' , ■ • Up to date, it was reported, 1787 pheasant eggs had been placed in incubators and under hens, and one incubator containing 363 eggs had completed its work, as a result of which 259 chicks were hatched, 41 eggs being infertile. There had been a number of deaths, and the result was 66 2-3 per cent, successful.
