PILOT OFFICER HODGSON
MEMORIAL WINDOW UNVEILED A fine tribute was paid to the memory of Pilot Officer William H. Hodgson, D.F.C., last Sunday morning, when,St: Peter’s Church, Cargill road, was filled to capacity for the unveiling and dedication of a window given by his relatives. The ceremony, which was performed by Bishop Fitchett, was most impressive, as was also the bishop’s tribute during a sermon dealing with the will of God as the inspiration and incentive to noble deeds in human life under all conditions. Bishop Fitchett illustrated his remarks with a quotation concerning the brave young airman taken from the recent book ‘‘Fighter Command,” which immortalises the deed which won for Hodgson the D.F.C. A number of Air Force officers and men from the Taieri and members of the Boys’ Brigade organisation paraded. The window reflects great credit upon Mr Brock, both in its subject matter and in. the quality of workmanship. The scene represents the Saviour’s commendation of the kneeling airman with raised right hand pointing him the way to the life and home beyond. The service of dedication was followed by Choral Eucharist sung-by the vicar, the Rev. A. B. Pywell. During the service Mr Tennant sang “Requiem.”
