BEAUTIFYING THE LEITH
TO THE EDITOR Sir,—A correspondent has written facetiously to “ Wayfarer ” in The Common Round about the disgraceful state of the Leith. Personally I think the matter is long past the joking stage. In the hot weather I have seen children paddling in the Leith, and even bathing in some of the deeper holes. And it is right they should be able ,to do so. Thev would, however,- bathe, at their peril with the stream in its present condition, with rusty, jagged rpetal, tins, and rubbish of all kinds along its length. Is there no civic pride, that what should be a thing of beauty is allowed to be an eyesore and a menace? How many councillors can say they have ever taken the trouble to inspect the Leith?—L ami etc.. Parent.
