DIOCESE OF DUNEDIN

:’v : TWENTY-FIFTH SYNOD THIRD SESSION CONTINUED The third session of the twenty-fifth Synod of the Diocese of Dunedin was continued in St. Paul’s Schoolroom yesterday, Bishop Fitchett presiding. Diocesan Trust Board The annual report of the Diocesan Trust Board stated that capital accounts showed a net increase of £1483. This was made up by £lOl2 transferred from income, £421 additions to existing funds by donations and bequests, and a new trust, £3OO, the Caldow bequest for the benefit of St. Luke’s, Oamaru. Against these increases, St. Peter’s No. 2 trust (£250) had been paid over in part discharge of the mortgage on St. Peter’s Church property. Accumulating funds showed an increase of £3B after the application of the Caversham debt fund to the repayment of debentures and the balance of the mortgage on the St. Peter’s Church property, and the application of part of the Pembroke sections trust to payment for the installation of electric light and power in the Pembroke Church. New church building funds had been added to by three new funds—Clydevaie (£130), Wallacetown (£B7 13s), and Macandrew Bay (£600), and the addition of a further £4O to the Balclutha fund. ’ A total of £262 had been added to these funds by way of interest. The new cathedral fund had again suffered a charge owing to the income from the capital in the hands of the Public Trustee again being insufficient to pay the annuities to beneficiaries. The total now administered by the board stood at £135,475, an increase of £2552 as against June 30, 1940. Tbe report was adopted. Parish Endowment Fund

A Bill to provide for the establishment and administration of a fund to endow parishes and parochial districts within the Diocese of Dunedin was introduced by the Rev. A. J. T Fraser, who said that in some churches necessary work could not be done on account of finance. The principle of the Bill, the mover said, was to establish a fund so that parishes might have some small endowment to assist them. He moved that the Bill be referred to a commission consisting of the Revs. W. A. Curzon-Siggers, A. B. Pywcll, J. A. Lusk, A. J. T. Fraser, and Messrs J. T, Dawson, J. Stevens and L. D. Ritchie to report to the next session of Synod. The motion was carried. Aid for English Churches

W. A. Curzon-Siggers and carried.

Bishop Fitchett stated that any money so collected would have to be held until the Government granted permission foi it to be sent overseas. After considering various business In committee, the Synod adjourned until to-day.
