PERSONAL ■ A motion of sympathy was passed at the monthly meeting of the Oamaru Presbytery yesterday with Mrs Douglas in the loss of her husband, Dr Lennox Douglas, who is presumed to have been killed on active service. The moderator of the Oamaru Presbytery (the Rev. W. W. French), at yesterday’s meeting, extended a welcome to the Rev. W. Lawson Marsh, who has just returned from Australia. Many friends gathered in the Weston Hall recently to bid farewell to Mr and Mrs J. Mitchell, who have left Weston to live in the town. The programme was as follows;—lnstrumental ducts, Miss Pile and Mr Barnes; songs. Miss Betty Pile; cornet solos, Mr Stenhouse; play, members of the Women's Division. Mr G. Stevenson was in the chair, and eulogised the guests’ qualities as neighbours, and said they would be very much missed in Weston life. The Rev. H. H. Barton also spoke a few appropriate words. Mr R. OAMARU PRESBYTERY / MONTHLY MEETING The moderator (the Rev. W. W. French) presided at the monthly meeting of the Oamaru Presbytery yesterday morning, when there were present Dr T. Paterson, the Revs. H. H. Barton. J. T. V. Steele, J. Fordyce, W. Lawson Marsh, A. Murdoch, J. Anderson, G D. Falloon, and Messrs O. E. Austing. A. Clark, O. McGimpsey, K. Cameron, IT. Archibald, J. Lorimer Dennison., and W. Warnock. A recommendation was passed that Dr A. Smith Morton should be the permanent referee to the beneficiary fund in place of Dr Lennox Douglas, whose death on service overseas has been presumed. Chapel at Waipiata A communication was received from Mr Murray in reference to the proposal to erect an interdenominational chapel at Waipiata Sanatorium. Following a discussion it was decided that the clerk should ascertain the relevant facts concerning the proposal, and report to the presbytery. The Rev. J, Fordyce was given power to see that the new projector purchased by the presbytery at a cost of £2O 10s, was put to good use during next winter. Nomination of Moderator-designate It was agreed to nominate the Rev. John Laughton (superintendent of Maori Missions) as moderator-designate of the assembly for 1941-42. Dr T. Paterson was appointed the presbytery’s representative on the Standing Committee of the assembly, and the Rev. J. Fordyce was appointed to the Records Committee. St. Paul’s Visitation The report of the commission appointed to visit St. Paul’s Church, stated that there were 25 elders, 21 managers, and approximately 400 families in the congregation The average attendance in St, Paul's and Eveline was 610, and the average attendance at communion for three years was-334. There were 510 communicants on the roll. Reference was made to the harmonious relations between the congregation and minister, and also the growing strength of the congregation. There were increasing attendances at communions, advances in missionary contributions, and a loyal band of office-bearers, and with the quickening of spiritual life the church organisations were in a healthv state.
