ITALIAN PRISONERS
USE AS FARM WORKERS FAVOURED BY PRODUCTION COUNCIL (P.A.) AUCKLAND, Oct. 13. Trie opinion that a mistake wasjbeing made in not using Italian prisoners was expressed by the chairman of the Auckland Primary Production Committee, Mr R. C. Clark, during a discussion at the meeting to-day on manpower in relation to farming. He said the objection was sentimental. The meeting passed a resolution suggesting an early meeting between the Primary Production Council and the Ministers of National Service and Labour, and so reaffirmed a resolution passed in July last favouring the application of the National Emergency Regulations to farm labour organisation. A further resolution was passed that if it were found necessary and where practicable troops from the' military camps should be made available for seasonal farm work. The placement officer advised that scheme 13 men were unsuitable for farm work.
