SERVICES RECOGNISED

INTERESTS OF LABOUR PARTY PRESENTATION TO MR NASH (0.C.) WELLINGTON. Oct. 8. Tributes to the faithful services rendered by the Minister of Finance. Mr W. Nash, as Acting Prime Minister during Mr Fraser's tour abroad and to his work for the Labour movement since its inception, were paid to-day by members of the Parliamentary Labour Party and friends when Mr Nash was presented with a tallboy, a razor and a set of cuff links. The Prime Minister, who made the

presentation, referred to the sacrifices made by Mr Nash in the interests of organising the party and to his ability and capacity as a member of the Government. Mr Fraser said that when he was away he had no anxiety with Mr Nash in charge over the conduct of the House. The Minister of National Service, Mr R. Semple. and the chief Government Whip, Mr J. O'Brien, added their tributes, referring particularly to the long hours of work put in each day by Mr Nash and to the wav in which he had filled the office of Acting Prime Minister. Mr Nash, in reply, added many interesting reminiscences to the Prime Minister's reminder of incidents in the party's early davs and expressed his recognition of the work done by many stalwarts. He assured the gathering that although there had been occasions when difficult situations had to be faced. Labour had achieved so much that he felt he had got from the movement in Ihe sense of what had been accomplished more than he had put in. The member for V/aitcmata. Mrs M. M. Dreaver. presented Mrs Nash with a handbag, accompanied bv the good wishes of the party, and Mrs Sempio handed Mrs Nash • bouciuet.
