MINING NEWS MOUNT MORGAN MINE REPORT ON INVESTIGATION fP.A.) WELLINGTON, Oct. 8. Mr W. J. Candy, of Masterton, and Mr W. Machin, of Christchurch, who recently visited Sydney to inquire into the affairs of the Mount Morgan Company in the interests of Nsw Zealand shareholders, have reported on their investigations. They found " that not one person, however critical in other matters, has suggested thai the mine and its ore deposits are not as extensive and likely to be as productive in gold and copper as has been from time lo time reported." Their report goes into the overburden question in detail and into .tfle policy of removing it by contract. Problems as yet unsolved are also referred to. They are of the opinion " that in future outside projects should be left severely alone" so far as capital responsibility is concernsd, and all effort should be concentrated on the Mount Morgan mine. Suggestions relating to organisation and administration were made to the directors for their consideration. COLOMBO TEA SALE Mr L. M. Wright has received the following cabled report on the Colombo tea auction of October 7:— Owing to the small offerings available, prices generally remained steady at yesterday's tea auction. BURNSIDE STOCK SALE SHEEP MARKET EASIER Over 300 fat cattle were penned for the Burnside stock sale yesterday, the quality on the whole being good. There were some consignments of choice quality in the ox section. Cows and heifers were in shorter supply and the quality of these was barely up to recent yardings. The market opened firm and as the sale progressed there was a buoyant demand throughout until the last race, when there was an easing in the heavier cattle of fullv £1 a head on the opening rates. One* extra heavy show bullock made £26 7s 6d, extra prime heavy bullocks to £23 17s 6d, prime heavy £fcO to £2l 12s fid, prime medium £l7 5s to £lB 12s 6d. medium £ls 2s fid to £l6 12s 6d, light to £l3 12s 6d, extra prime cows and heifers to £l6 2s 6d. prime £l3 2s 6d to £l4 12s 6d, medium £ll 2s 6d to £l2 7s 6d. light to £9 2s 6d. There wa sa fair-sized entry of store cattle and these met with very keen competition. Good bullocks in forward condition brought up to £l2.

tstmtmtmtmtwtmuwtmmtmmjttut Fat sheep had a larger yarding, numbering 2150, compared with 1640 last week. Included in the entry were several consignments of prime quality wethers and ewes, with a smaller percentage oC light sheep than usual. Owing to the large entry and the lack of outside competition, the market opened easier for all classes, by Is 6d to 2s on the average rates of last week, with the sale lacking the late keen competition. On the average prices for all sheep were 2s below the previous sale's rates. There was a small number of hoggets forward and these sold well. Extra prime heavy wethers made to 38s, prime heavy 33s 6d to 36s 3d, prime medium 31s 3d to 33s 9d. light to 28s 6d, extra prime maiden ewes to 31s, prime heavy 25s 6d to 27s 6d, medium weight 23s 9d. Fat lambs were forward in larger numbers, 38 being penned. The bulk of the entry was of good quality and met with a ready sale, prices being equal to those ruling at the previous sale. Prime lambs 42s 6d, medium 32s 6d to 355. There was an average yarding of fat pigs, 190 being penned. These consisted principally of porkers and the demand for these was very keen, prices showing an advance on late rates. Baconers also met with a good inquiry and sold from par to a shade firmer. Best baconers brought to £4 19s, best porkers to £3 13s. Store pigs had a fair entry and these met with a good inquiry, prices being well up to last week's rates.
