DETAINED AT SHANGHAI
BRITISH AND AMERICAN SHIPS ACTION BY JAPANESE SHANGHAI. Sept. 17. The Japanese Customs detained the American steamer Zoclla Lykes, carrying 2000 barrels of fuel oil originally consigned to a Japanese firm, but now diverted to Manila. The Japanese alleged that the manifest was irregular and demanded that the oil be unloaded. The Japanese also detained an unidentified British ship which desired to proceed to Hongkong with salvage gear. The Japanese said it was contrary to regulations to ship machinery from Shanghai.
