OFFICE GUTTED

FIRE IN MANOR PLACE GAS CYLINDER EXPLODES Fire gutted the office of Messrs Kininont and Bates, soft drink manufacturers, Manor place, last night, and the remainder of the premises were affected by heat and smoke. Three machines of the City Fire Brigade were called out at 9.7, and flames were found to be pouring out of the office windows when they arrived. The outbreak was quickly extinguished. At the time of the fire. Mr George Kinmont, a middle-aged man residing at 15 Balmoral street, Opoho, was in the building, and it is believed that he was experimenting in making a new cordial when an oxygen cylinder exploded. There was an ppen fire in the grate of the office, and it is thought that this may have ignited the oxygen. Mr Kinmont was later admitted to the hospital suffering from shock. A Minor Call The South Dunedin Fire Brigade extinguished a chimney fire in King Edward street at 12.15 p.m. yesterday.
