DEATH OF MISS NICOLSON

SECRETARY OF OTAGO WOMEN'S CLUB Many sorrowing hearts will be caused by the death of Miss Jean Nicolson, secretary of Ihe Otago Women's Club, which occurred late on Tuesday night, shortly after her return from Central Otago, where, with the hope of overcoming a slight indisposition, she had gone for the week-end. It is said that there is no one in existence whose services are indispensable, but upon the Women's Club the loss of Miss Nicolson will inflict a grave blow. She had been seccetary of the club for about a quarter of a century—during the greater part of its existence —and had performed her duties with a quiet efficiency which commanded the admiration of all with whom they brought her into contact. The Otago Women's Club is a huge organisation with a.roll, even under war conditions, of about 860 members, and it was largely through Miss Nicolson's competence, her equanimity, and the exercise of her unfailing tact that the activities of the club, and of its numerous committees or circles, have been conducted with a smoothness that has defied all possible criticism and been regarded with warm appreciation by the kindred organisations in the Dominion By her personality and charm of manner Miss Nicolson endeared herself to the members, and her death will have the effect of causing a deep blank in the lives of large numbers nf them.
