THIRTY-SEVEN CONVICTIONS

" The defendant has a list of 36 previous convictions for breaches of the motor regulations," said Mr C. Davenport, a traffic officer, before Mr F. H. Levien, S.M.. in the Magistrate's Court, Pukekohe, in reference to CHve Parsons, who did not appear to answer a charge of driving a car through the restricted area in Pokeno at more than 30 miles an hour. The inspector gave evidence that defendant's speed past the post office in Pokeno on June 21 was 57 miles an hour. Mr Davenport submitted the list of previous convictions and pointed out that it dated back only as far as 1938 and that the defendant had been fined in practically every court in the northern half of the North Island. The Transport Department had supplied the list and wished to point out that the magistrate had power to deal with the defendant's driving licence. Mr Levien fined the defendant £5.
