SOCIAL TO SOLDIERS

FUNCTION AT RAVENSBOURNE A social and dance organised by the Ravensbourne Patriotic Committee in honour of soldiers was held in the Coronation Hall on Wednesday last. Thex-e was an excellent attendance, which was .most gratifying to the committee, and thanks were extended to all those present by the Mayor, Mr E. J. Taylor, who presided. Mr W, George. Mr R. Guthrie, and Mr P. Davis were responsible for the social arrangements, assisted by a willing band of lady helpers, with the result that a happy evening was spent by all, and the “Welfare to Soldiers ’ Fund benefited accordingly. The following soldiers were the recipients ot appropriate gifts, presented by the Patriotic Committee;—Warren Trainor. Leslie Rawlins, Alexander Carlin, Colin White. The Mayoress presented bouquets to the relatives of the de-r parting men. Mr Rawlins, father ol Airman L. Rawlins, and the Rev. Mr Cairney suitably replied on behalf of the men The opportunity was taken to welcome back from overseas service Sapper Arthur Clifford Rutherford (son of an old resident of Ravensbourne), who was present, and he was accorded a hearty welcome.
