DESIRE FOR STABILITY WAR SUPPLIES IN PACIFIC AREA (P.A.) AUCKLAND, Sept. 11. Making a short visit to America on Government and private business connected with the war effort. Sir Herbert Gepp, the eminent Australian metallurgical engineer, is at present 'in Auckland, and will leave by the Anzac Clipper on Sunday. Sir Herbert is managing director of Australian Paper Manufacturers. Ltd., and director of the North Australian aerial geological and geophysical survey, which is making a mineral survey of a large area on behalf of the Commonwealth and Queensland Governments. It was quite apparent that a very large percentage of the people of Australia were hopeful that an election would not be necessary, Sir Herbert said. They would regret such action as unnecessary and costly, and there was a general desire to bring about political stability. In the meantime, the war job was being carried forward. While the war effort of both Australia and New Zealand was good, Sir Herbert said, both dominions should concentrate on making it better and more efficient. As the number of troops sent abroad increased and the naval and shipping demands in the Pacific became greater, so the call for supplies from both dominions would grow, and no effort should be spared to increase the output of every necessary item. Australia was preparing to accept the accessary diminution in non-essential goods to provide labour and plant for essential production. It was willing to' place no limit in this direction. -
