LEGISLATIVE, COUNCIL FULL WAR EFFORT STRESSED (P.A.) WELLINGTON, Aug. 27. The second-reading debate on the Finance Bill was concluded m the Legislative Council to-day, and the measure was put through the remaining stages and passed. Mr T. Brihdle stressed the need lor every man and wpman in New' Zealand to help in the war effort. Ho said the fact that New Zealand’s war effort to date had been the best outside Great Britain should not lead to a slackening through a feeling of complacency. ; He also suggested that the Allies should form the basis of a new League of Nations, which could bring about a new order free from bigotries and intrigues. Mr W. H. Mclntyre, who is chairman of the Nelson Education Board, spoke against the*validatioh of sums paid to the secretary of the Exhibition Eduda*; tion Committee and for a presentation l to of that committee.
