A SPIRITUAL PROBLEM
"In the present warfare the principles of otr faith are crucial if mankind is to the pit of destruction.” said Pfofeaaor John JBaillie in an address to the General Assembly of the Church of Scotland. “It is vain to imagine tha# after'the war Europe ana the world w£ll find ordered and happy life and become a community of nations if onljy there be brought into being large economic plans to facilitate the passage of goods, vast financial schemes, to encourage Industry and some form of federation of the nations, with. 1 international courts and police and armies for the/settlement of disputes and the restraint of a rebel State. Such as these there must be, of course, amd the vastness of the problem is an. Indication of the greatness of the changes which we must expect in economics, in finance and in the realm of notional sovereignty. But the whole problem must be viewed as •essentially a : religious problem, in which man’s spiritual nature must be given over-riding emphasis."
