FUTURE OF PALESTINE
ADDRESS BY DR S. LOWY JEWS’ LOYALTY TO BRITAIN , The transformation which has been effected in' the Holy .Land since the last war-, and the future, of Palestine were dealt with. ,by Dr! S. Lowy. accredited representative of the Jewish Agehcy. which; embraces - all the, Zionist organisations throughout the world, in sn address in the Regent Theatre yesterday morning! A welcome was accorded Dr Lowy by the Mayor (Mr A. H. Allen), .who said that in the Jewish people Britain had a faithful ally. He expressed appreciation of the work being performed in Dunedin by people of the Jewish race. , . After dealing with the great development of Palestine in recent years,, and referring: to the part' Jews were" playing at the Side, of Britain’ in the present conflict, Dr Lowy.stated thaf hi§. race was the first to 1 suffer; at, the Kahd of the Nazi regime. The persecutions to which'. Jewry! was sub jected- Were /difficult; to believe, he'said,-and, humapity made its, mistake , wllen it {.regarded these outrages as merely passing events which would sooner or later die down. On the contrary, the persecution of the Jews was but a warning to the rest of Europe and Christianity. e “Palestine, to-day,” Dr Lowy said, “ has pledged her utmost support to England, for she knows that in the end justice will be done. Peace and goodwill will be permanently established Ih the land of the. Jews, and,' thanks to the pioneers who came as refugees to their homeland, and the men giving their lives in Britain’s cause! prosperity and happiness are being assured for the future.’' Dr Lowy was accorded a vote of thanks, on the motion of Dr S. F. Hunter. v An interesting film depicting the new era in Palestine was then screened. A comprehensive survey of the industrial and agricultural movements which have been instituted was shown in striking detail, and interesting shots of the excavations being carried out on the sites of the country’s ancient civilisation were included.
