AIR RAID TERROR
CHUNGKING BOMBED A SUSTAINED ATTACK NEW YORK, (Rec. 0.5 a.m.) Aug. 12. The Chungking correspondent of the New York Times says a thunderstorm ended the worst ordeal by air bombardment Chunking has ever endured. Japanese raids had gone on with only short intervals since Friday. Apparently the latest Japanese tactics are to keep Chungking in a state of constant alarm, and the population has been squeezed in bomb shelters for 22 of the 24 hours. Chungking residents were nearing a state of collapse from fatigue and hunger.
