APPEAL BOARD MEMBERS

REPLY TO MR LEE’S COMMENT (P.A.) AUCKLAND, Aug. 13. An echo of a reported statement made by Mr J. A, Lee, M.P., in the House of Representatives on Friday was heard at the sitting of the No. 1 Armed Forces Appeal Board to-day, when the chairman (Mr C. R. Orr Walker, S.M.) asked an appellant if lie found any member of the board “ ferocious.” The appellant replied that he .did not. Mr Walker said he was pleased to bring up the matter of ‘‘gross misrepresentation made by public men against a member of the board.” Mr Lee was reported to have said that sc many people seemed to have been ap T pointed to the tribunals who had not been soldiers in the last war, and in Auckland the Labour representative on the tribunal seemed to have taken up a most ferocious attitude towards conscientious objectors.
