NORTH OTAGO SPORTS NEWS OF THE WEEK Representative Rugby.—The return representative Rugby match between North Otago and Sbuth Canterbury will be played at Timaru on Saturday. There have been one or two alterations to the North Otago team owing to certain players not being available, but the side is substantially the same as that which defeated South Canterbury at Oamaru. The South Canterbury team is also practically the same as that which played at Oamaru, and it is anticipated that the local players will give a good account of themselves at Timaru. Mollison Cup.—Old Boys and Duntroon ran out the winners in the first round of the Mollison Cup competition, and the final between these teams should provide an attractive game. Old Boys ' accounted . for Windsor fairly easily, but they did not reproduce the same standard of football as in recent games. Old Boys were short of players. jand had only about 12 men in the field, the juniors being engaged at the same time in a Ralph Cup match. The backs, however, supported one another well, and were seldom in serious difficulty, Robertson and McKone being again the star performers. Paterson went well behind the scrum, and the forwards more than held their 6wn, tries being scored by R. Twaddle (2). J. Twaddle and Chappell. Windsor’s only score was from a penalty goal by A. Johnston. The game between Duntroon and Athletic was not taken seriously, but the players had an enjoyable outing. Strachan, a sturdy forward, filled the unusual position of five-eighths, and was difficult to bring down when he got going. McCully (forward) played a fine game, and paved the way for one try by Waddell. and scored himself from another brilliant breakaway. McKone was the outstanding forward in the Athletic pack, and his efforts were deservedly rewarded with a good try. Cycling Points.—The points to date in the Oamaru Amateur Cycling Club’s championship are as follows: —R. Boyd 10. A. J. Macrae 9§, K. Harney 9}, A. L. Macrae 9, G. Aitcheson 6, R. Grave 6, E. Pye 6. CHORAL CONCERT Arrangements for Saturday night’s choral performance at the Opera House are well in hand, and heavy bookings indicate a capacity house. Much careful preparation has been made by the choir and orchestra, and when the locai Choral Society is augmented by a section of the Dunedin Choral Society, the body of singers, under the baton of the Oamaru conductor. Mr James Hinton, should be able to produce some notable choruses. Choral societies have not found it easy to maintain a good balance of voices through losses of men performing war work of various kinds, but the co-operation between the local and Dunedin choirs has been of great assistance in this respect. The box plans are at Begg’s. PERSONAL Mr W. H. McLew, Dunback, will leave to-morrow for Burnham to undergo training with the commanding officers’ unit of the Home Guard. Word has been received from Navy Headquarters, Wellington, that Maxson J. McDowell, a son of Mr and Mrs R. A.
