MEETING OF EXECUTIVE * • , . \ I ■* . ) The monthly meeting of the executive of the Otago Importers and Shippers' Association was held on Tuesday afternoon, when there were present:—Messrs J. H. Edmond (president). S. F. Abiirn. A, de Beer, W. E. Earnshaw. J. D. McKechnie and W. J. Winefield. Mr Aburn briefly welcomed Mr Edmond on taking his seat for the first time as. president of the association. and wished him a successful and pleasant term of office. The president referred to the death of Mr F. W. Mitchell, and those present stood in silence as a mark of respect. The secretary submitted a copy of the; comments of an official of the Railways Department in Wellington regarding the stand taken by the association in regard to the pillage of goods 1 landed from overseas vessels at Port Chalmers and conveyed in trucks to Dunedin. As' the association questioned the principal statement of the department, the secretary had replied, also through the columns of the press. His action in the matter was fully confirmed. The secretary reported that a member of-the association had'complained as to the difficulties that arose in obtaining prompt delivery of cargo from overseas when it was merely marked by a number without any ■further v indication as to the actual consignee, such as a recognised mark—for example, the initials of the firm The question was fully discussed from various angles, but action was postponed pending further inquiries, A vote of thanks to Mr P. S. Anderson for his fine address at the annual meeting was passed.
