NEW APPOINTMENT SHORTLY (0.C.) WELLINGTON, July 29. An early announcement of the Government's choice of a successor to Major-general Sir John Duigan, who recently completed his extended term as Chief of the General Staff, is expected by the Minister of Defence, Mr F. Jones. It is learned that the appointment of a new Chief of the General Staff has already been considered by the Government. Mr Jones added that the Government did not intend to fill the post of In-spector-general of the Forces vacated by Major-general Sir Andrew Russell.
