RETAILERS' ACTIVITIES The weekly meeting of the retail section fo the " Comforts for Fighters " Fund June Appeal Committee was held on Monday, Mr L. A. Doolan presiding. The staff of Messrs Brown, Ewing and Co., Ltd.. reported that the sum of £9O had been collected at the " dug-put;" Acknowledgment was made of a donation of £lO by the staff of Messrs A., and T. Inglis. Ltd. A clock raffled by the staff of Messrs Dawson's, Ltd.,- was reported to have raised £IOO, and a second clock was now being raffled.; A report on the arranging of a copper trail by Messrs G. Adess and J. Himburg was considered. Full co-operation of the staffs of the retail trade was asked in this effort. The.main -streets of the. city had been divided into zones from Manse street to Frederick street. ,Four supervisors would be required for each zone, and approximately 50 guards ..were necessary to keep a tally of the coppers. VARIETY CONCERT Something outstanding in the matter of variety entertainment has been the objective of the staff of Messrs Whitcombe and Tombs, Ltd., in arranging the programme which will be presented in the • R.S.A. Hall on Tuesday next as part of the Re-. tail Group June Appeal for the Comforts for 'Fighters" Fund. Mr. Arthur Macdonald will compere the programme, and will also contribute an item. Other well-known artists who are to give their services are Miss Billie Loan, a talented elocutionist, Miss Dorothy Barron, the popular soprano, and Messrs Walter Mitchell and Ray Marshall, radio vocalists. A pianoforte duet will also be rendered by Misses Olive and Ellice Nieper. Miss Ethel Todd's pupils will present .a ballet, and items will be contributed by the Opoho Ladies' Choir and Stokes's Bario Band. Other solo items will be by Mrs J C McFarlane (contralto). Miss Rosina Glen (elocutionist). Miss Audrey Wheeler (tap-dancer), and Misses Sadie Anderson", Robina Jenkins, and Pat Woods (vocalists). Additional artists are Master Billy Murphy, the clever young piano-accordion player, and Mr J. McFarlane, described as " Dunedin's own Levante," and a humorous sketch will be presented by Misses Dorothy Lowry and Marjorie Wilden. The accompanist will be Mrs T. A. Coventry.
