LENIENCY FOR SOLDIER
ISSUED A VALUELESS CHEQUE (PA.) AUCKLAND.. June 17. Convicted in the Police Court yesterday on two charges brought under the Bankruptcy Act Cecil James Rogers, formerly an agent, now a soldier at Papakura camp, came before the magistrate, Mr F. K. Hunt, to-day. "This man had a pocketful of judgment summonses and no money in the bank, but he bought two motor cars and gave a valueless cheque in part payment for each," Mr Hunt said. "In an ordinary case I would have sent him to prison for two or three months, but as he is coing awa.y on active service I will admit him to probation for two years, a condition being that he does not enter business during that oeriod without the consent of the probation officer." Rogers, who pleaded not guilty to both charges, was defended by Mr Uren.
