NORTH OTAGO UNION MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE Mr M. F. Woodward (president) occupied the chair at the weekly meeting o£ the Management Committee of the North Otago Rugby Union last night. The Otago Rugby Union wrote expressing appreciation of the hospitality extended to Otago players and officials oh their recent visit to Oamaru. —The account for travelling expenses was passed for payment. Grants of free school footballs were acknowledged by the Duntroon, Five Forks, Windsor. Ardgowan,, and Otepopo Schools, Mr C. Campbell (referee) reported that during the Windsor-Athletic match on Saturday he had to caution W. Rawcliffe (Windsor) and T. Robinson (Athletic) for rough play.—Placed on the cautioned list. Grading lists were received from the Athletic, Excelsior. Duntroon, Old Boys, and Windsor Clubs. The Waitaki Boys’ High School was granted permission to play the following annual matches:—v. King’s High School, at Oamaru. June 25; v. Southland Boys’ High School, at Invercargill, July 10; v. Christchurch Boys’ High School, at Oamaru. July 23; v. Timaru Boys’ High School, at Timaru. in August.—Permission was granted to use the Show Grounds for the matches at Oamaru.

The draft copy of rules for incorporation purposes, as submitted by Messrs Ongley and Grater, was approved. There was some discussion on the lapse of time experienced sometimes in the admission of injured players to hospital. —The committee decided to write to the Waitaki Hospital Board suggesting that, as it was often difficult to obtain a certificate from a doctor on Saturday afternoons, some arrangement might be made by the board to admit to the hospital injured players certified by an ambulance man on duty as needing hospital treatment. ,

Civic Service.—At the invitation of the Mayor (Mr J. C. Kirkness), borough and county councillors and representatives of other local bodies and leaders in national and patriotic organisations attended a civic service in St. Paul’s Church on Sunday afternoon. There was a large congregation, and an appropriate address was given by the Rev. Dr T. Paterson. Oamaru Rotary Club.—Speaking at the weekly luncheon of the Oamaru Rotary Club yesterday, Mr A. H. Chapman, jun., mentioned the effect of artificial fibre on the wool market, stating that production of the fibre had increased in the 10 years prior to 1939, from 9,000,0001 bto 900,000,0001 b, and the cost of production was only 9d to lOd per lb. Material containing half fibre and half wool was almost Indistinguishable from woollens, and if it contained 75 per cent wool and 25 per cent, fibre, it was quite indistinguishable. National Reserve.—A route march of 12 miles was undertaken by the Oamaru Company, National Reserve, yesterday morning, and the troops proved to be quite fit for the task.
