WOMEN’S WAR SERVICE AUXILIARY

ORDER V PLACED FOR UNIFORMS : Orders have been placed by the Director of National Service for a supply of -uniforms for members of' the Women’s War Service Auxiliary, and a number of these will be available for distribution at an early date. It is therefore desired that applications should be obtained from members who wish to procure uniforms. It is clearly to be understood that members making application for uniforms will be required to refund part of the cost to the National Service Department through the district committees of the Auxiliary* Furthermore, it has been definitely laid down that uniforms. are to be issued only to members of the Auxiliary who fulfil the following conditions:— ’.

1. They must have been members of the Auxiliary;for not less than three months. 2. During that period the members must have: attended no fewer than 12 training classes or drill classes of the Auxiliary. ’ , -3. The uniform will be issued on the understanding; that it will be worn only in class or on duty, or when going to or returning from class or duty. 4; An undertaking must be given by the member to continue in the Auxiliary for the duration of the war. 5. The recommendation and certificate of an accredited instructor must be obtained. The cost of manufacture of the uniforms is being subsidised by the Government, and members wishing to procure uniforms will be required to pay the sum of £1 (plus 2s 6d for special sizes). This sum covers uniform, cap, and tie. Application forms are avail-able-at the office of the W.W.S.A. (first floor, New Zealand Express Buildings) . Canteen

, A meeting of canteen supervisors was held on June 5 at the Home Science Building, when a full discussion concerning depots, equipment and staffing took place, which will prove very helpful to the organisation of canteeh work. Land Army

It is gratifying to report that the Dunedin City Council has consented to the ground at “ Chingford ’’ being used by the Land- Army group. This land will be prepared for spring planting. The Dunedin Gardening Club is taking a practical interest in this branch of war work. Committee

Registrations Registrations are called for in various branches of war service—Plunket aids, Land Army, especially at present. In connection With Plunket aids, it is hoped to have a special series of lectures for women and girls, not necessarily mothers, who are interested in the care of young children. Registration cards are available at the W.W.S.A. office.

WAIKOUAITI ft is expected that an instructor in transport work ' will be appointed shortly, members being very keen to have this training started. Instruction in canteen work will also be arranged, and at the end of June it, is hoped to have the lectures for Plunket aids commenced by the Plunket nurse. Physical culture and bicycle classes are already being held, as well as St. John Ambulance lectures.

PORT CHALMERS Arrangements for classes, etc., in all branches of war work are under way.
