RICE MONOPOLY
A monopoly of rice imports and t exports was assumed by the Hongkong Government on June 1 as a war measure. and is linked up with similar control in Shanghai. The official announcement stated that the move was made because of the excessively high price of rice, the uncertainly of supplies. and the increasing difficulty of obtaining shipping facilities.
