SLY-GROG SELLING
TRANSACTIONS 'FROM CARS SUBSTANTIAL PENALTY IMPOSED ' (P.A.) WELLINGTON. June 16. Sly-grog selling from cars - parked: in a city street at night resulted in the imposition of a substantial fine and a prison sentence upon Gustavus Stephen Parsons, aged 26, by Mr J. L, Stout, S.M., in the Magistrate’s Court tb-day. Parsons pleaded guilty to two charges of selling liquor without a licence, and on one charge was sent to gaol for a month with hard labour, and on the other was fined £SO. ; J The police said it was noticed that two cars were being parked in Boulcott street, and on the night, of May 16,/pplice watchers saw a taxi draw up one, and parcels being and on -another . occasion four, taxis stopped alongside, parcels being transferred to'each. A constable purchased two bottles of beer from the defendant/ The liquor seized by the . police, consisted of 174 bottles of beef and'lo of wine.’ . - V. , Arthur Francis Philpott, aged: 17, who Was assisting Parsons, was, fined £2 on each of two: charges of unlicensed sale of liquor. .• i , - .•> r ;
