SURFACEMAN KILLED
HURLED OVER PRECIPICES ACCIDENT AT QUEENSTOWN (P.A.) INVERCARGILL, June 15.. Robert John Coard, aged 45 years, a surfaceman employed oh the King-ston-Queenstowri highway, suffered severe injuries from which he died, whUe attempting to clean out a culvert near Queenstown on Saturday. , Coard was attempting to clean out a culvert which had been blocked since Easter and had crawled about 68,feet into a four-foot pipe to make a passage for the water to trickle through. His wife, who was with him, had gone to the dam, which she found to be too full. \ 'v ' ' "£■;■?>.■ The dam burst before she: could return and she arrived back 1 in tirne to see her husband hurled otit of tpe pipe at a terrific speed to be shot over two or three precipices towards- the lake.
