SOCIALS TO SOLDIERS
Tomahawk.—Residents met in the Glencairn Hall to honour Private Frank Patrick. Mr R. Collins, chairman of the local Patriotic Committee, presented Private Patrick with an inscribed fountain pen on behalf of the residents of the district. Duets were sung by Mesdames King and Drain, and solos by Miss Lexie Matheson, the accompaniments being played by Mesdames Brunton and Dickson. A humorous sketch, "Cheerful Visitors," was given by members of the Tomahawk Women's Institute. Gunner Wooton, who was on leave, was also welcomed. Dance music was supplied by Messrs Eggers and Drain. Oturehua.—On June 5 a large representative gathering assembled in the Oturehau Hall to honour Private Alexander Beck, who was on leave from Burnham. Mr W. G. Becker, representing the Patriotic Farewell Committee, presented the guest of honour with a Rolls razor. Mr B. Aldridge made a presentation on behalf of the members of the Ida Valley Football Club, of which Private Beck has been a member for some years. Mr S. Hayes, on behalf of the R.S.A., conveyed best wishes to the guest. Items were given by Mrs F. Earland and Mr J. Becker, of Qtusehua ~
