MORNINGTON AND MAORI HILL DRAW The outstanding result of. Saturday's games in the Fletcher Cup competition, which were played in cold conditions, was the drawn result between Maori Hill and Mornington. The latter, although a young team, shaped well against more experienced opponents. Defeating Caver sham at Logan Park, Old Boys registered its fifth win of the season, and Roslyn-Wakari by winning'against Technical broke its run of recent defeats. -The cup points are: Old Boys 11 (played 6), Mosgiel 10 (played 5), Northern 9 (played 7), Seacliff 8 (played 7). Maori Hill 6 (played 6), Mornington 5 (played 3), Roslyn-Wakari 4 (played 7), Caversham. 4 (played 7) and Technical 1 (played 8). The results were:— Old Boys 4, Caversham nil. Mornington 3, Maori Hill 3. Roslyn-Wakari 8. Technical 2. The game between Roslyn-Wakari and Technical at Ellis Park provided mediocre football, the squally wind affecting the display Roslyn practically dominated the game throughout, goals being scored by Stanley (.3). Welham (3> and Rutherford. (2) Pepperil, in goal for Technical, gave an outstanding exhibition, saving many shots, especially in the first spell when his side was facing the wind. Ramsay and Witchall were the scorers for Technical. Playing with the wind in the first spell on the Mornington ground Maori Hill pined the home-side in its own half, but sound defence, principally on the part of Martin in goal, held Hill to a lead of two goals, scored by- Boyd and Gilchrist. After the change-over Mornington provided some livery football. Shots from Henderson and Brownlee missed, but Hill increased i,ts lead with a further goal from Gilchrist. Mornington's attacking movements were always dangerous and two goals from Brownlee and one from Garside evened up the scores; Cooper (Hill) retired hurt and his side was hard pressed, but Mornington was unlucky when shots from Brownlee and Garside struck the posts and thus robbed it of victory, , Play between Old Boys and Caversham was more even than the score would indicate. The greasy conditions made play difficult and Caversham backs gave away two goals through misplaced clearances. Even so it might have equalised had the forwards, used their many opportunities in the second spell Old Boys' remaining goals were scored by Groves. Race (centre-half), Pickerill (back) and Nixon (goal) did good work for Old Boys, whilst O'Neill (centre-half), McCaw (right-wing) and Didham in goal were prominent for Caversham.
