GERMAN LEAFLET RAID
THE EAST OF ENGLAND FIELDS COVERED LIKE SNOW . | LONDON, June 12. A German raider last night dropped thousands of leaflets over a village in the east of England, covering the fields like snow. The leaflets, printed on both sides in English, dealt with the Battle of the Atlantic, and quoted facts given by President Roosevelt and figures of British tonnage sunk. An official communique states: Enemy activity during the* night was not on a heavy scale Bombs were dropped at widely-separated points in many districts in England. In some places substantial damage was done, and in one district it is feared a large number of casualties may have been caused. Elsewhere, however, the casualties are reported not heavy. Londoners heard the first night alert for a week. The gunfire was heavy at times, but no incidents have been reported. THE RAIDS ON MALTA CIVILIAN CASUALTIES (Rec. 9 p.mJ MALTA, June 13. In a year’s raiding on Malta 295 civilians have been killed, 310 have been seriously injured, and 2341 houses have been demolished or seriously damaged. 1
