BRITISH PROPAGANDA
LACK OF DRIVE ALLEGED DIFFICULTIES OF MINISTER LONDON, June 6. Lack of drive in British propaganda, for which the service Ministers are blamed, is said to be exhausting the patience of the Minister of Information. Mr Duff Cooper, who has grappled earnestly with the difficult problems of information and organisation, and, after a bad start, has won the liking and sympathy of journalists. Sections of the press are canvassing the prospect of Mr Duff Cooper’s resignation unless he is granted greater power over service information. The three Ministers to whom the reference is made are the First Lord of the Admiralty, Mr A. V. Alexander, the Secretary for War, Mr H. D. R. Margesson, and the Secretary for Air, Sir Archibald Sinclair.
The political correspondent of the Daily Herald says: “Mr Duff Cooper is tired of being punched around and jumped on by critics of the meagre official news service. He and the amiable assembly of executives'who oil at his elbow say that it'is all the fault of the service Ministers. These three dignitaries of Whitehall are said to sit on news like broody hens over clutches of eggs. They see all, hear all, and say nothing.”
