FANCIERS’ CLUB SHOW

BREED AND STAKES CLASSES The Dunedin Fanciers’ Club show was continued in the Brydone Hall yesterday, when the dog section was judged. A ttoal of 125 animals were benched, ana from this number the judge (Mr E. Hall, Wellington) chose Mrs A. Grey's Pekingese Manyoia or r-ekm the best m the show. The stakes classes, which were judged in the evening, attracted considerable atten. tion from the public. The show will be concluded to-day. Owing to an error in the programme, the name of Mr W, Crombie, an exhibitor of Norwich canaries, was published yesterday as Mr McCromble. STOY 5 TOY DOGS There were only three Pekingese in the show, two of them puppies under t2 months. All won first awards, Mrs A. Grey’s Manyoia of Pekin taking a challenge point in the open class for bitches. Pomeratalans were also poorly represented, and the best pf them was Mrs J. C. O Callahan’s Orange Wang, which took first in the open and stud classes and was also awarded a challenge point. Miss R. Munro’s two Australian terriers. Blue Gem and Annette, were the only entries of the breed, and both took major awarc-s and challenge points. A Lakeland terrier, the first of its breed to make an appearance in Dunedin, was shown by Miss I. V. Hoddinot, and although only a puppy bitch was given a challenge point in the open. i TERRIERS

Only two West Highland Whites faced the judge, and both of them won first prizes and challenge points. They were Mrs J. McKmghts lan of Ayr and Mrs M. L. O'Connell’s Muridge Tartan. There was a good representation of Scottish terriers, and the most outstanding dog was Miss Jocelyn North’s Hogue Jack, which took four firsts and a challenge point. Messrs M. G. and H. W. Austen had a likely-looking puppy in Leithval Angus, which was awarded two firsts. Among the bitches, Miss K. Hart’s Leithval Walsing Whisper, which won the open, was the most outstanding animal. Wire-haired fox terriers were not forward in large numbers, dogs being better represented than ™55 es ‘ Miss J. Whites Dick was also successful in three classes. The best bitch was Mr J. R. Smiths Kinloch Surprise. Mr J. Clapo was the only exhibitor of Irish terriers s , and his ch Shaun and Macushla Buzz both took firsts and challenge points. Mr R Brown s Carringtor Gad figured promiAire dale dog classes, winning the open, limit, and coionial-bred. Sims’s Leviska Lassie The ohiy competitor among bull terriers came in the open class lor bitches, which was won by Mr R. W. Brown’s Heatherlea Fermoy. There ■were only three greyhounds, and Mrs B. Hollows Gold Reserve won the open for dogs, the same class for bitches going to u rs Reid's Smart Parade of Ivanhoe. The pointer breed was represented by one dog, Mr T. D. Dalziel’s Galway Grouse, which took four firsts and a challenge point. Mr A. S. Peake benched two English springer spaniels, a dog and a bitch, and each won a first award in the open. Labradors proved to be the most popular breed so far as entries were concerned, and .there was keen competition In all classes. The open for dogs went to Mr J. S. Lawrie’s ch Prince of Elmwood, a beautiful animal, in a class of Rve. Second award was given to Mrs M. J. Grimsdale’s Joseph, which also won the colonial-bred and limit classes Mrs W. Fitzgerald’s Victor Walden took the maiden, novice, and puppy classes. Mrs and Miss Hart’s Lady Patricia won the open for bitches, as well as the colonialbred, and was awarded a challenge point. Mr j?* Lawrie's Cora of Elmwood was awarded first place in the maiden, novice, and limit classes. NON-SPORTING DOGS

Bulldogs were well represented and among them Mrs A, J. Mac Donnell’s Warrior Excelsior (Aust;) was an outstand- " ing example of the breed. He won the ,open in fine style and took several special awards. Mr J. S. Howson’s Roto Kaupo Talpo, a puppy under 12 months, gained four first prizes, and the same owner’s bitch, Roto Raupo Walhine, also won four firsts. The open among bitches went to Mrs Mac Donnell’s Warrior Petite. There were only two Chow-Chows. Mr G. G. Phillip’s Ko Ko of Lochleven and Mrs J. Maclntyre’s Shen Sl’ Chang, and each took a first award, the latter the open for dogs.

The rough-coated collies were a big class, and the open for dogs went to Mrs C. J. Philllpson’s Broughshane of Glenlochiel from Mr E. J. Lowen’s Sunstar of Wakatlpu, which won the colonial-bred class. The best bitch was Mr Lowen’s Fantasy of Glenavon. which took a challenge point. The same owner's Happy Lass of Wakatipu also did well. Mr and Mrs P. N. Woodhouse’s Aurora Shadow King and Aurora Penelope both won challenge points in a small, section devoted to Samoyeds. Only three Alsatians, all dogs, were benched, and Mr A. E.
