SUCCESSFUL JUMBLE SALE

SOUTH DUNEDIN BUSINESSMEN So many keen buyers were numbered among the 600 persons who thronged into the South Dunedin Town Hall for the jumble sale conducted for the " Comforts for Fighters ” Fund by the South Dunedin Businessmen’s Association yesterday afternoon, that one stall was completely wrecked by force of numbers, and some of the shoppers were knocked over in the rush as the doors were opened. In these circumstances, it was not surprising that £46 Os lid was taken in the afternoon in the short time of 12 hours. Gifts of meat, groceries, cakes, footwear, and clothes had provided ample stocks for the various stalls, and the class of goods offered for sale was high. A large percentage of the goods was auctioned, and satisfactory prices were obtained, more especially for smaller articles. This appeal formed part of the Dunedin Zone Committee’s effort,' and was considered highly successful.
